Welcome to the War At Sea - Fleet Command

This is our first stab at a user based fan site for Avalanche Press naval wargames. To tell you the truth, there is so much to do I get a little dizzy thinking about it. (for those that know me, that means dizzier), but we have big plans.

We have released our first VASSAL module for Midway Deluxe and we hope to have more soon for other games in the series, I have been working on them for more than a year and I am in a pretty good cadance doing the VASSAL creation process. To get the module just mail me or use the mailto on the Midway Deluxe page stating that you own the hard copy and then I send you back a link to the download.

Why are we doing this this way? Well a couple reasons. First it creates a point of engagement with our team, which for the website just now, means me... I want to build a community here and having an idea of who is interested enough to download the bits is important. Also Dr. Bennighof is not a fan of VASSAL per se in that there are a lot of people that download everything and don't own the games. I can only guess how tough it is to be an entrepreneur with a PhD in History and to run a game company and feed your family at the same time. We need to respect that and honor that effort. If for no other reason than we want the games to keep flowing.

The games must flow!

So it is important to get across that if you want to come to the site, that is fine wether or not you own the game, but to download it? That has to be reserved for actual owners.

I think that makes sense and it is fair for the quality of the actual games and the amount of work that went into this and future modules.

We are also looking for content, articles, ship of the day content, and most importantly, at this time, AARs. As you try out the modules, please send me AARs to post here. Let me know the scenario and what side you played and how it went. Give us the details. Let us know who sank whom.

All that having been said, let me know with comments and issues. All the choices I have made for VASSAL are my own (with the design team) and we need to be the ones fixing problems.

Have fun and good gaming! - Matt Brown
